Many small businesses want a quick and low cost way to create a website.

This website is my personal experiment to see how easy it is to set up a search engine friendly site from scratch, on a very low budget.

I know this site is not sophisticated, but it’s inspiring to know it was created in less than 4 hours on a budget of £22.78.

My Requirements

• The site had to be search engine friendly, complete with keyword rich URLS, title tags, a sitemap and all that good stuff
• I want to be able to edit and amend the site myself, without paying for a web designer
• I wanted to have my own domain name
• Flexible layout and design to suit my own requirements
• All the usual web pages a business would expect: Contact Us,

The Recipe

• Blogging Software: WordPress because:
  • it’s free
  • it is search engine friendly
  • Matt Cutts recommends WordPress
  • it has lots of free plug-ins

• Webhosting: Webhosting.uk.com webhosting because:
  • it includes automatic installation of WordPress
  • it only costs £19.99 for a year’s worth of hosting
  • its fantastico control panel is truly fantastic, with easy installation of a huge variety of Internet applications

• Domain Name: only £2.79 per year bought using 123reg

• Utilities to Manage the Site
  • FileZilla to FTP files up to the web server
  • UltraEdit to edit those pesky little computer files
